Our next weekend mindfulness course is on the 6th and 7th July at the Live and Breathe Yoga studio in Townsville, 108 Denham Street.  The course runs from 11am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday.  THE COURSE IS FULLY BOOKED. No previous experience of mindfulness and meditation is required. In our course we provide you with an understanding of the neuroscience underpinning mindfulness techniques, why the techniques promote great mental and physical wellbeing and most importantly give you the tools to embed mindfulness at home, work and the space in between.

We focus on four very different aspects of mindfulness including:

  • Breathwork techniques to help create the conditions for us to be mindful and feel more calm and centred
  • Single pointed meditation techniques to help us aim and sustain our attention, increase alertness and improve cut off between tasks
  • Developing greater emotional awareness.  In this element of the course we explore a simple model of mindfulness to help us to be more self-aware.  We also introduce techniques to help us observe, own, learn from and move on from the emotions we experience
  • Developing self-compassion.  In this element we explore the concept of self-compassion and tools to develop more self-love, curiosity, openness and acceptance of our place in the world

We have run this course hundreds of times over the last ten years here in Australia  and in the UK.  The feedback has been that we are able to create a light, safe and fun place to explore mindfulness. The degree to which you wish to be involved in the workshop is up to you.  If you wish to simply listen to others and observe and practice techniques that is wonderful.  If you wish to contribute and share your experiences with others that’s great too. Take the experience at your own pace.

My background

 Andy Roberts - I lecture on our self-care in health sciences program at the College of Medicine and Dentistry at James Cook University. In 2007 I took a Masters degree in Applied Positive Psychology at the University of East London and my dissertation was on how to introduce mindfulness into organisations. I’m also an accredited emotional intelligence coach using the Mayer, Salovey Caruso model of EQ.  After a thirteen year career in corporate finance  I retrained as a Sivananda Yoga teacher and sports massage therapist in 2003. Since then I’ve practiced Iyengar yoga in London for ten years followed by, Ashtanga yoga for four years and more recently Jivamukti yoga.  I’ve also trained in Vipassana meditation techniques and for many years I’ve practiced Chi Kung with my teacher in London. I own an integrated mind and body business in London with over forty practitioners. My passion is the exploration, integration and practical application of ancient mindfulness practices into busy 21st century lives. I live in Sydney with my partner but I’m blessed to be able to come back to Townsville for work on a regular basis.
