Weekend mindfulness course Townsville - Connecting to ourselves
Our next weekend mindfulness course is on the 23rd and 24th February at the Live and Breathe Yoga studio in Townsville. The course runs from 11am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday.
No previous experience of mindfulness and meditation is required. In our course we provide you with an understanding of the neuroscience underpinning mindfulness techniques, why the techniques promote great mental and physical wellbeing and most importantly give you the tools to embed mindfulness at home, work and the space in between.
We focus on four very different aspects of mindfulness including:
- Breathwork techniques to help create the conditions for us to be mindful and feel more calm and centred
- Single pointed meditation techniques to help us aim and sustain our attention, increase alertness and improve cut off between tasks
- Developing greater emotional awareness. In this element of the course we explore a simple model of mindfulness to help us to be more self-aware. We also introduce techniques to help us observe, own, learn from and move on from the emotions we experience
- Developing self-compassion. In this element we explore the concept of self-compassion and tools to develop more self-love, curiosity, openness and acceptance of our place in the world
We have run this course hundreds of times over the last ten years here in Australia and in the UK. The feedback has been that we are able to create a light, safe and fun place to explore mindfulness. The degree to which you wish to be involved in the workshop is up to you. If you wish to simply listen to others and observe and practice techniques that is wonderful. If you wish to contribute and share your experiences with others that’s great too. Take the experience at your own pace.

We are running another mindfulness weekend course on the 23rd and 24th March. Both of these courses are stand alone learning sessions. You can attend either or both workshops. In our second wokrshop in March we practice single pointed meditation and breathwork techniques and go on to explore how to use mindfulness and positive psychology tools to connect with other people and the world around us.
I lecture in mindfulness and self-care in medicine at the College of Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy at James Cook University. I also run emotional intelligence, leadership and mindfulness programs with South 32, CQ University, JCU, pwc, PVW Partners, Queensland Health and the Australian Institute of Marine Sciences.
