What is emotional intelligence?

Peter Salovey and John Mayer were the first major researchers in this area, and they defined emotional intelligence as:

“the ability to perceive emotions, to access and generate emotions so as to assist thought, to understand emotions and emotional knowledge, and to reflectively regulate emotions to promote emotional and intellectual growth.”

Andy Roberts has a masters degree in applied positive psychology from the University of East London. In 2008 he became an accredited MSCEIT coach, receiving training from world-leading emotional intelligence expert Dr Susan David.
