Stress resilience program
In Gallup’s 2026 State of the Workplace report, 49% of people answered yes to the question, “Did you experience a lot of stress yesterday?” And 58% of people under 35 said yes. Over the last 15 years, there has been a steady increase in stress, anxiety, psychosocial safety costs, absenteeism, burnout, and a steady decline in engagement levels at work.
Many workplace stress resilience programs focus on equipping individuals with resilience tools rather than taking a holistic approach to creating workplace systems which both support wellbeing and drive effectiveness. We take a different approach by exploring evidence-based positive psychology frameworks to help teams build a common language around stressors and shared insights into how to manage these. I’m able to do this because of my 20 years teaching in this area and my ten years working on the Health Professional’s Self-Care program at James Cook University.
About our stress resilience training days
We start by defining individual resilience and team resilience, and from there provide practical tools to support both. By the end of our sessions, people leave with a common language for identifying challenges and moving from adversity to growth. We use the following three models:
1) High-quality connections – the strength of a team’s relationships drives resilience and effectiveness. In this section, we provide tools to help leaders connect with their teams through a coaching framework.
2) PERMA (H) – a shared language for wellbeing across five parts: positive emotion, engagement, relationships, meaning, accomplishment. Used first to diagnose personal resilience, then applied to the team. Meaning and accomplishment are key to helping teams thrive. In this section, we explore individual and team strengths and how to be in FLOW at work. The (H) stands for health, and here we bring two decades of health and wellbeing experience into the room by sharing the latest neuroscience research into how to build focus and manage stress.
3) SPARK – Situation, Perception, Affect, Reaction, Knowledge – adapted for teams. A repeatable process for separating what actually happened from how it was read, felt, and reacted to. Used personally first, then as a team: agreeing the shared Situation, surfacing where Perceptions differ, naming the Affect it creates, catching the habitual Reaction, and building shared Knowledge — a common framing for adversity, tied to what the team actually values, not just what one person felt in the moment.
The approach
Participants leave able to:
- Build high-quality connections through coach-like leadership — a real buffer against stress, for themselves and their team
- Use PERMA to diagnose their own resilience, then apply the same model to their team- use
- SPARK to reframe a setback personally, and to run the same process as a team when it counts
- Stay calm and clear under pressure, for themselves and everyone around them
