Psychosocial Safety for Leaders Program

Psychosocial Safety for Leaders

Becoming Cultural Architects of Trust, Performance, and Wellbeing

A one-day leadership program for leaders and emerging leaders who want to become the cultural architects of their teams — building trust, performance, and psychosocial safety.

Psychosocial safety has become one of the fastest-emerging priorities for workplaces — and one of the most complex. It is a fluid, evolving field shaped by new legislation, changing expectations, and a growing awareness of how leadership behaviour directly impacts wellbeing, culture, and performance.

While policies and procedures matter, psychosocial safety is ultimately created moment by moment through leadership behaviour — how leaders show up under pressure, how they communicate, how they respond to challenge, and how safe people feel to speak up, contribute, and take responsibility. In today’s climate of rapid change, heightened expectations, and sustained pressure, this leadership capability has never been more critical.

The costs of getting it wrong are significant. According to Safe Work Australia, mental-health-related injuries now account for a growing share of serious claims, with average costs and lost time far exceeding other workplace injuries. These figures highlight just how crucial leaders are in shaping the felt experience — the everyday reality — of a safe, engaged, and high-performing workplace.

What You’ll Learn

At its core, the Psychosocial Safety for Leaders program equips participants with the tools and insight to:

  • Recognise and respond to psychosocial hazards and emerging risks in everyday leadership practice.
  • Understand how leadership behaviour, power, and stress responses shape safety culture and team performance.
  • Build the four stages of safety — Inclusion, Learner, Contributor, Challenger— to strengthen trust, engagement, and accountability.
  • Lead in ways that create psychological safety even during uncertainty, change, and challenge.
  • Develop greater self-awareness of personal leadership patterns under pressure (e.g. avoidance, control, rescuing, compliance).
  • Regulate themselves in difficult conversations so safety is maintained withoutlowering standards or performance expectations.
  • Embed practical systems, rituals, and habits that support resilience, ownership, and sustainable performance.
  • Translate psychosocial safety expectations into meaningful leadership practice that strengthens culture and reduces risk.

A Focus on Leader Capacity, Not Just Knowledge

Psychosocial safety is not sustained through checklists alone. It is shaped by a leader’s capacity to notice what is happening — in themselves, in others, and in the system — and to respond with clarity, care, and courage.

This program supports leaders to:

  • Understand the impact of stress, pressure, and uncertainty on themselves and their teams.
  • Increase emotional and relational intelligence to navigate complexity and competing demands.
  • Hold both care and challenge, creating cultures where people feel supported and
  • Lead in ways that build trust, confidence, and psychological safety over time.

Practical, Evidence-Based, and Immediately Applicable

This one-day program blends neuroscience, behavioural science, and real-world leadership practice. It is highly experiential, combining:

  • Guided self-reflection and facilitated dialogue
  • Real-world scenarios drawn from participants’ workplaces
  • Practical tools leaders can apply immediately
  • Live practice of psychologically safe conversations

Leaders don’t just learn about psychosocial safety — they experience what it feels like to create it.

Why This Matters

When psychosocial safety is embedded into leadership practice, teams don’t just feel better — they perform better. High levels of psychological safety are consistently linked to improved decision-making, stronger collaboration, increased innovation, and greater adaptability.

Leaders who can create safety and challenge build cultures where:

  • Risks and issues are raised early
  • Accountability is shared
  • Trust is strengthened
  • People recover faster from pressure and change

This program equips leaders to meet psychosocial safety expectations while also becoming the kind of leaders people want to follow — especially in today’s complex and demanding environment.
